So Sayeth the Odinson: There’s So Many to Choose From

Greetings from the Odinson,

Hey, fanboys and girls, it’s time to read some comics!

I’m reading so many of the fantastic title carried here at mycomicshop.com.

THERE’S SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM.

There are so many to choose from, Mr. Disembodied Voice.  I have five can’t-miss titles I read every month myself.  I’m loving what Rick Remender is doing in Uncanny Avengers.  If you are gonna unite the Marvel Universe’s Premiere Super teams – The Mighty Avengers and Uncanny X-Men – then you better throw epic challenges at them worthy of the world’s mightiest super heroes and this title does that in spades.  Mark Waid’s current run on Daredevil is magnificent and everything that is great about super hero comics.  You know no Odinson pull list would be complete without the astounding adventures of Thor: God of Thunder and Captain America.  And, amazingly, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, in the pages of Batman, are taking the Dark Knight Detective to new heights.

THERE’S SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM.

Yep, yep, and those aren’t the only comic titles to choose from.  If the high octane heroics of the Big Two aren’t your cup of tea, there’s plenty of high quality Independents to choice from.  Black Science is, hands down, the MUST READ new title of the next year.  It reminds me of the old Heavy Metal sci-fi tales, the good ones.  What if Superman wanted Lex Luthor to win?  That’s the surprising new take on the genre Never Ending offers.  I remember the awesome MTV animated series and it’s been nearly twenty years since I read the original run so I am thoroughly enjoying a second run through the mind-bending tale of The Maxx: Maxximized.  Who will save the world when Jack Steele, a thinly veiled homage to James Bond, fails?  How about his progeny?  That’s the interesting set-up in the pages of The Illegitimates.  And who can resist the Ten Little Indians scenario of Deathmatch?

THERE’S SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM.

Hey, there’s also guilty pleasures like Forever Evil and Forever Evil: Arkham War that explore a world without heroes, a world where mankind must turn to those we call villains for salvation.  How about Superman/Wonder Woman, the comic book world’s ultimate Power Couple?  And don’t forget the highly underrated and greatly underappreciated adventures of Aquaman.

THERE’S SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM.

How about trying a new take on a classic title?  Superior Spider-Man is easily the most polarizing take on the Amazing Wall-Crawler since The Clone Saga.  The bold new direction in the pages of New Avengers has been wonderful, as the story now follows the clandestine adventures of Marvel’s Illuminati.  The drama and tension between the Black Panther and the Sub-Mariner is utterly delicious.  How can two heroes possibly concentrate on saving the world when they want nothing more to do than to kill each other?  How do you breathe new life into the Wild West?  Bring Jonah Hex to present day Gotham City in the pages of All Star Western.  It’s a new spin on the classic sci-fi comic, Hex.  And, Injustice: Gods Among Us is the story the Powers that Be don’t have to the guts to tell on Earth-1.  These are just some of the great titles that can be found over at mycomicshop.com.

THERE’S SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM.

If new titles are not enough for you, and you’re like “I want the classics as well,” go to our vault (or Search Field, if you will) and find Old School, sure-fire entertainment in titles like Preacher and The Walking Dead.  Or try something completely different.  What if William Shakespeare wrote for HBO?  You’d probably end up with the sci-fi epic Saga.  Brian K. Vaughan (Y the Last Man, Ex Machina) is easily carving out his spot on the Mount Rushmore of modern day scribes.  Longshot Saves the Marvel Universe features a sorely underused and Odinson personal favorite C-List character that was co-created by Ann Nocenti and the great Arthur Adams in the lead role.

THERE’S SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM.

That’s right, Mr. Disembodied Voice, there are so many to choose from.  So get choosing, kids, and go to mycomicshop.com and start getting picky.  Whether your flavor of the month is Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, IDW, Boom, Dynamite or Avatar, there are so many to choose from.

THERE’S SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM.

We said that already!

THERE’S SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM.

NOTE: The format and material of this column was inspired by a hilarious SModcast advertisement performed by Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier, the writer/director/producer team behind cult classics like Clerks, Mallrats, and Dogma.

This is Odinson bidding thee farewell
